The purpose of this foundational course is to expose risk managers to the potential for criminal charges or civil complaints against a health care provider who is involved in medical malpractice. In this course, you will learn what constitutes medical malpractice and how to identify when it may have occurred in the workplace with your staff. You will learn vital actions for a risk manager to take when your organization faces civil or criminal actions. However, most importantly, you will learn about proactive and reactive risk management strategies to prevent these types of errors from occurring in your workplace.

  • Summarize the basics of the medical malpractice landscape including the elements of medical malpractice. 
  • Apply proactive and reactive risk management strategies to situations that could give rise to medical malpractice cases.
