ASHRM Distinguished Service Award – Call for Nominations

ASHRM Distinguished Service Award nominations are closed for 2020.

The Distinguished Service Award (DSA) is the highest honor bestowed on an individual by ASHRM. The purpose of this award is to recognize an individual member who has made significant contributions to ASHRM and to the profession of health care risk management. The recipient will receive the award and a complimentary registration for the ASHRM 2020 Annual Conference. If a nominee is selected, the Distinguished Service Award will be presented at ASHRM 2020 during the annual business meeting.

Award Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Nominee Eligibility Requirements:

The applicant must be an ASHRM member with a minimum of five years of membership in ASHRM. Current ASHRM board members and officers are ineligible, but committee and task force chairpersons who are not board members may be nominated. An applicant may be nominated by any ASHRM member, but no applicant may nominate himself or herself. The nomination form must be completed by the nominator to provide sufficient information about the nominee in order to demonstrate the nominee's qualifications.

ASHRM members may submit the nomination form by email to Please include “DSA Nominee” in the subject field of your email. All forms must be received no later than June 1, 2020.

Selection Criteria:

The following criteria represent the qualities that are felt by the board to be most demonstrative of the applicant's dedication and commitment to the profession of health care risk management. An applicant need not fulfill all criteria to be considered for the award.

  • Active participation in ASHRM, e.g., service on the board, committees, task forces, faculty, author, etc.
  • Active participation in local or regional risk management organizations or affiliated chapters if available to the candidate.
  • Responsible for major contributions to the advancement of the profession of risk management through authorship, teaching, research in risk management, etc.

All submissions will be judged by the ASHRM Board according to established criteria, a summary of which is included in this narrative. The top applicants may be requested to provide additional information. In addition, the ASHRM Board may contact relevant parties to seek additional information.
